Job Type: Part time - 21 HRS/WEEK only
Location: Exeter, Rhode Island
Start Date: Variable between 10/19/2026 & 11/2/2026
Shift: Part time, 21 hours, 3 days weekly, Exact days TBD
Hours: May be variable and determined by manager.
End Date: 6/30/2027, will reassess need at end of FY27
Job Summary
We are seeking an Assistant Building & Grounds Officer to support the maintenance, repair, and operation of buildings and grounds. The role will assist with HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and general building maintenance, as well as coordinating supplies, contractors, and repair projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and building systems.
- Maintain exterior areas, including roofs, siding, lighting, grounds, and signage.
- Inspect buildings, identify repair needs, and help estimate repair costs.
- Assist with purchasing supplies, materials, and equipment.
- Coordinate and inspect contractor, construction, and maintenance work.
- Review contractor estimates, invoices, purchase orders, and billing.
- Assist with repair and replacement projects while following established budgets.
- Prepare basic specifications and drawings as needed.
- Help coordinate the work of skilled maintenance and trade personnel.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, vendors, contractors, and staff.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in building maintenance, facilities maintenance, or a related field.
- Working knowledge of general building operations, maintenance materials, and equipment.
- Ability to identify repair needs and work with contractors and vendors.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple maintenance tasks.
