Position Summary
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, organized, and sanitary environment throughout the manufacturing facility, including production areas, offices, break rooms, restrooms, common areas, and other assigned spaces. This position plays an important role in supporting a safe and efficient manufacturing operation by ensuring facility areas are routinely cleaned, stocked, and maintained.
The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and comfortable working in an active manufacturing environment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Clean and maintain common area walkways, offices, conference rooms, break rooms, restrooms, and other facility areas.
- Support production floor area as required
- Sweep, mop, scrub, vacuum, and sanitize floors and surfaces as required.
- Empty trash and recycling containers and transport waste to designated collection areas.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, sinks, toilets, fixtures, and other high-touch surfaces.
- Restock restroom, break room, and facility supplies, including paper products, soap, and cleaning materials.
- Maintain cleanliness around employee break areas, cafeterias, and common spaces.
- Clean spills and address housekeeping issues promptly to help prevent slips, trips, and other workplace hazards.
- Support housekeeping activities in manufacturing and warehouse areas while following all applicable safety requirements.
- Operate cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers, vacuums, mops, pressure washers, and other custodial equipment as trained.
- Use cleaning chemicals safely and according to manufacturer instructions and company procedures.
- Follow all required PPE, chemical handling, hazard communication, and workplace safety procedures.
- Place appropriate signage or barriers around wet floors and other temporary hazards.
- Report maintenance issues, damaged equipment, leaks, unsafe conditions, or facility concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
- Assist with moving or arranging tables, chairs, supplies, and other items as needed for facility activities.
- Maintain an adequate inventory of custodial supplies and notify the supervisor when replenishment is needed.
- Perform periodic deep-cleaning and special cleaning assignments as scheduled.
- Maintain a professional and respectful presence around employees, visitors, contractors, and customers.
- Follow company policies, attendance requirements, and established work procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Manufacturing Environment & Safety
Because this position works within an active manufacturing facility, the Custodian must be able to follow facility safety requirements and work safely around manufacturing equipment, forklifts, conveyors, vehicles, and other industrial activities.
The employee must:
- Follow all site safety rules and required PPE requirements.
- Remain aware of moving equipment and vehicle traffic.
- Follow chemical labeling and storage requirements.
- Never enter restricted areas or operate manufacturing equipment without authorization and training.
- Promptly report spills, hazards, injuries, and unsafe conditions.
- Participate in required safety training.
Qualifications
- Previous custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, facilities, or industrial cleaning experience preferred.
- Manufacturing or industrial facility experience is a plus.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to cleanliness and detail.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to safely use basic cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working in office areas.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull.
- Ability to lift and carry cleaning supplies and equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to safely operate or maneuver custodial equipment.
- Ability to work around cleaning chemicals and industrial environments while following required safety procedures.
- Ability to perform repetitive cleaning activities throughout the work shift.
Work Environment
This position is based onsite at a manufacturing facility in College Station, Texas. The work environment may include exposure to manufacturing noise, dust, varying temperatures, cleaning chemicals, moving equipment, and vehicle traffic. Appropriate PPE and safety training will be provided as required.
