Job Title: Maintenance Technician

Job Description

The Maintenance Technician supports operations in a high-tech, automated warehouse environment by maintaining and troubleshooting robotic forklifts, palletizing arms, conveyor systems, and racking infrastructure. This role combines mechanical and electrical work with real-time problem solving in a fast-paced, technology-driven setting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on robotic forklifts, palletizing arms, conveyor systems, and racking systems to ensure optimal uptime.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and PLC-related issues across automated systems to quickly identify root causes and restore functionality.
  • Monitor automated system performance, respond promptly to system alerts or faults, and take corrective action in real time.
  • Collaborate with remote support and engineering teams to resolve complex technical issues and implement long-term solutions.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed logs of maintenance activities, repairs, system adjustments, and updates.
  • Support the installation, commissioning, and upgrade of automation equipment and systems as needed.
  • Follow and enforce safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and operational standards to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Inspect racking infrastructure and automated equipment regularly to identify wear, damage, or potential failures.
  • Assist in optimizing maintenance schedules and procedures to improve system reliability and performance.
  • Communicate equipment status, issues, and progress clearly to supervisors, teammates, and support staff.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of manufacturing experience in a mechanic, auto mechanic, or entry-level maintenance role.
  • Strong mechanical skills with hands-on experience in maintenance, repair, and machine operation.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on automated and mechanical systems.
  • Basic understanding of electrical and PLC-related troubleshooting in an industrial or automated environment.
  • Proficiency using touchscreens, computers, and mobile phones to operate, monitor, and document system activities.
  • Solid problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues and communicate clear ideas for resolving them.
  • Consistent work history and strong attendance, demonstrating reliability and commitment.
  • Comfort working with automation, robotics, and production equipment in a fast-paced environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; trade school education is preferred.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with robotic systems, including robotic forklifts and palletizing arms.
  • Experience with automated production or distribution environments.
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and maintenance documentation practices.
  • Ability to work safely at heights up to approximately 45 feet when required.
  • Capability to work in confined or restrictive areas, including spaces as narrow as 24 inches.
  • Comfort working in variable temperature conditions ranging from approximately 105&degree;F down to 32&degree;F.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with on-site and remote teams.
  • Motivation to learn new technologies and expand technical skills on state-of-the-art automation systems.

Work Environment

This role operates on a 3rd shift schedule, typically from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, within a large automated distribution center. The facility features extensive automated racking systems, multiple robotic arm cells in both inbound and outbound areas, and a fleet of approximately 300 mobile robots. Robotic arms break down large pallets, stack and prepare individual products, and apply plastic wrap for outbound shipments, while mobile robots navigate the racking to retrieve products for orders. Some racking structures reach heights of up to 45 feet, and certain work areas are narrow, with clearances around 24 inches. The environment provides protection from direct weather but is not fully climate-controlled, so you must be able to work in temperatures ranging from about 105&degree;F down to 32&degree;F. The setting is highly automated, fast-paced, and technology-driven, with a strong emphasis on safety and adherence to operational procedures.E

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Melrose Park, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $32.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
