Responsibilities
- Perform daily cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and disinfecting specific areas within the shelter
- Operate cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers and vacuums to maintain floors and surfaces in pristine condition
- Handle chemical agents safely by following proper chemical handling safety procedures and safety protocol adherence
- Assist with heavy lifting tasks using safe lifting practices to move supplies or equipment as needed
- Maintain sanitation standards in public areas, restrooms, and common spaces
- Ensure compliance with safety guidelines during all custodial activities to promote a safe environment for staff, visitors, and animals
- Arrange rooms for meetings and/or events
Qualifications
- Prior custodial or janitorial experience preferred; familiarity with commercial cleaning practices is a plus
- Knowledge of cleaning procedures, sanitation standards, and chemical handling safety procedures
- Ability to perform manual handling tasks including heavy lifting with proper technique
- Strong attention to safety protocol adherence and facility maintenance standards
- Excellent customer service skills when interacting with staff or visitors in shared spaces
- Ability to work independently with a proactive approach to cleanliness and safety
- Ability to clearly communicate
