Job Description
Job DescriptionAbout the Role
As the SAP PM Maintenance Planning Specialist, you will transform approved work requests into precise, execution-ready work packages that keep people safe, assets reliable, and costs in check. You will be the connective tissue between operations, engineering, and craft execution, ensuring every job is scoped accurately, scheduled smartly, and performed to a documented standard.
A Day in the Life
- Morning triage in SAP PM: Screen incoming work orders for clarity and completeness, returning those that need refinement with actionable guidance. Update scheduling fields, requisitions, and bills of materials to keep data current.
- Field walkdowns: Visit the job site to assess access, isolation points, special handling, rigging/scaffolding needs, potential interferences, and equipment conditions before you lock the scope.
- Build the playbook: Convert scope into a step-by-step work package: craft skills by task, estimated labor hours, specialty tools and equipment, materials, third-party service needs, and hold points for quality and safety.
- Embed safety controls: Identify job-specific permits such as Hot Work, Confined Space, and Line Break. Integrate hazard assessments, LOTO expectations, and standard operating procedures directly into the plan.
- Procedure discipline: Make sure each release references an approved maintenance procedure or a documented and verified Procedure Exemption per policy.
- Manage change the right way: Author, review, and initiate Management of Change (MOC) requests when job steps, specifications, or checklists are altered.
- Close the loop: After execution, capture feedback with crews, then refine task lists, parts, durations, and instructions to continuously improve future jobs.
Collaboration
You will partner daily with operations for access and permitting, with engineering for technical data and standards, and with execution teams to validate the practicality of plans and ensure field-readiness.
Tools & Systems
- CMMS: SAP PM for work order data, BOMs, requisitions, and scheduling parameters
- Technical references: P&IDs, OEM manuals, schematics, and mechanical blueprints
Qualifications
- Education: Associate degree (A.S./A.A.S.) in engineering, industrial technology, or similar; or 3+ years of equivalent hands-on experience in industrial maintenance, plant operations, or manufacturing.
- Systems: Practical experience with CMMS; SAP PM proficiency preferred.
- Technical skills: Able to interpret P&IDs, equipment manuals, electrical/mechanical schematics, and mechanical blueprints.
- Safety & compliance: Familiarity with OSHA requirements, Lockout/Tagout, and hazard analysis; understanding of MOC and document control workflows.
- Core competencies: Analytical problem solving, cross-functional communication, field coordination, and meticulous planning.
What Success Looks Like
- Execution teams consistently receive clear, unambiguous job packages.
- Safety controls and permits are integrated and visible before work starts.
- Accurate labor, material, and service estimates reduce delays and rework.
- Post-job learnings routinely feed back into improved task lists and BOMs.
