New Life Center, one of Arizona's largest domestic violence shelters, is seeking a dedicated and reliable Maintenance Worker to join our team. Our shelter provides safety, healing, and support to women and families in crisis. In this essential role, you will help ensure our facility remains a safe, clean, and a welcoming environment by performing a variety of general maintenance, repair, and upkeep tasks. JOB SUMMARY:
The Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing routine maintenance, landscaping and repairs including plumbing, electrical, basic carpentry, heating, cooling, laundry and other building systems for New Life Center's campus and Hope's Closet store while upholding the mission, vision, and guiding principles of New Life Center. The individual in this position will also assist with minor construction projects and support the preparation of casitas for incoming residents by performing essential cleaning, sanitizing, and repair tasks. This position will ensure general upkeep of New Life Center's physical buildings and grounds.
The goal of this position is to maintain a safe, clean and welcoming environment for New Life Center's residents and staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSFacility Maintenance (New Life Center and Hope's Closet)
- Completes general maintenance for New Life Center's campus and thrift store in a professional, timely and quality manner.
- Manages the care and upkeep of landscaping on site.
- Performs routine equipment repair and troubleshooting, responds to maintenance work requests.
- Completes basic carpentry, electrical, mechanical, air-conditioning, plumbing, or associated work on campus and store facilities, using hand and power tools as needed.
- Makes periodic or special inspections of premises to determine repair work as necessary and completes related documentation.
- Accomplishes work within appropriate time frame.
- Correctly stores and maintains equipment, following safety protocols and procedures.
- Maintains work areas in an orderly organized manner.
- Contributes to maintaining a safe/productive environment.
- Performs a variety of labor related tasks and other assignments as needed.
- May serve as New Life Center's point of contact for on-site vendors and facilities-related needs as needed.
- Performs preventive maintenance to increase the efficiency and operating life of all equipment, buildings, and infrastructural systems such as electrical, mechanical, heating, air conditioning, and plumbing.
- Maintains effective working relationships with vendor contractors.
Agency Management
- Participates as an active team member of New Life Center's facilities program.
- Responsible for cleanliness and appearance of entire campus.
- Supports the work of turning over Casitas and Single Suites to maximize occupancy when needed.
- Responds to security/fire/maintenance issues or alarms on/off duty hours and report to the appropriate member of leadership.
- Works cooperatively and collaboratively with a diverse group of staff and residents who have exposure to trauma.
- Performs other duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONSRequired
- Combination of education and experience equivalent to 2 years of general facilities maintenance. Experience in residential facilities a plus!
- Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and related systems.
- Knowledge of environmental, health, and safety codes and regulations.
- Proficient with computers and software including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
- Proficient in basic mathematics, including addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.
- Valid Arizona driver's license and insurance and access to reliable transportation.
- Currently possess or have the ability to successfully obtain Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety. **
- Consent to participate in New Life Center's criminal history background check for Determination for Suitability to Interact with Minors. **
- CPR/1st Aid/Bloodborne Pathogen Certified. **
- Negative TB test required. **
- Knowledge of personal computers and various software programs including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
- Physical ability to successfully perform the duties of the position.
- Ability to work evenings as weekends as necessary/required.
**If necessary, New Life Center will complete these areas of qualification during the onboarding process.
PREFERRED
- Tech School certification or post high school.
- Relevant professional technical certification(s).
- Bilingual English/Spanish.
