About the Role:
We are seeking a reliable and skilled Handyman / Store Maintenance Associate to perform minor repairs and general maintenance at supermarket locations. This role focuses on low-risk tasks such as repairing doors, shelves, floor tiles, wall surfaces, and other store fixtures.
The Handyman will inspect maintenance issues, complete repairs safely and efficiently, and help keep each store clean, functional, and presentable. This position does not include electrical work, rooftop work, major plumbing, high-elevation repairs, or other tasks requiring specialized licenses or involving significant risk.
The ideal candidate has general maintenance or handyman experience, is comfortable using basic hand and power tools, and can work independently while communicating clearly with store management. Candidates must understand when a repair is outside the position’s approved scope and should be referred to a licensed or specialized contractor.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Previous handyman, general maintenance, facilities, construction, or repair experience is preferred.
- Ability to use basic hand and power tools safely.
- Basic knowledge of painting, patching, shelving, doors, hardware, and minor tile repair.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and time-management skills.
- Ability to lift and move tools, supplies, and materials safely.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required.
- Must follow the defined work scope and avoid electrical, high-elevation, and other high-risk repairs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification or formal training in carpentry, painting, or general building maintenance.
- Experience working in retail trade environments or commercial building maintenance.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and OSHA standards applicable to building maintenance.
- Basic knowledge of electrical and plumbing systems to assist with minor repairs.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with management and team members.
Responsibilities:
- Complete minor repairs to doors, handles, hinges, locks, shelves, cabinets, and store fixtures.
- Perform basic painting, patching, caulking, and touch-up work.
- Replace or repair damaged floor tiles when appropriate.
- Assemble and secure shelving, displays, and basic furniture.
- Inspect reported maintenance issues and determine whether they fall within the approved scope.
- Keep work areas clean and safe during and after repairs.
- Document completed work and report issues requiring specialized service.
- Follow store policies and avoid disrupting customers or daily operations.
Skills:
The required skills such as interior painting, drywall repair, and carpentry are applied daily to maintain and improve the physical condition of retail facilities. Interior painting skills ensure surfaces are properly prepared and finished to enhance visual appeal and durability. Drywall expertise is critical for repairing damage and creating smooth, professional-looking walls. Carpentry and finish carpentry skills are used to build, repair, and install structural and decorative wood elements, including cabinetry, which contribute to the functionality and aesthetics of the space. Preferred skills like knowledge of safety standards and minor electrical or plumbing repairs complement these core abilities, enabling the handyman to address a broader range of maintenance challenges efficiently and safely.
