Job Summary:
Seeking a Senior Maintenance Technician / Maintenance Planner to serve as the primary maintenance resource for a chemical manufacturing facility and distribution center in Itasca, IL. This is a hands-on role responsible for troubleshooting and repairing production and facility equipment while also managing preventive maintenance, work orders, maintenance planning, vendors, and spare parts.
The ideal candidate is a strong mechanical troubleshooter who can work independently, take ownership of problems, and either resolve issues directly or coordinate the appropriate outside resources.
Must Have Skills:
- 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills
- Experience with pumps, mixers, valves, piping, motors, rotating equipment, and production equipment
- Preventive maintenance and maintenance planning experience
- CMMS experience; SAP PM strongly preferred
- Basic electrical and plumbing troubleshooting/repair skills
- Ability to work independently and prioritize maintenance needs
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Job Duties:
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production and facility equipment
- Diagnose mechanical issues and rebuild pumps as needed
- Maintain mixers, pumps, motors, piping systems, valves, and other production equipment
- Own and continuously improve the preventive maintenance program
- Create, manage, and complete work orders and maintain accurate equipment history
- Prioritize maintenance requests based on safety, production needs, and business impact
- Develop maintenance plans and schedules and manage the maintenance backlog
- Coordinate maintenance vendors, contractors, parts, materials, and outside services
- Support equipment installations, improvements, automation projects, and capital projects
- Coordinate maintenance support for forklifts and other outsourced equipment
- Monitor maintenance costs and support maintenance-related purchasing
- Maintain compliance with safety and environmental requirements
- Work closely with Production, Operations, Engineering, contractors, and leadership
- Provide support across two shifts, including occasional overtime or off-shift/emergency support
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/trade training or associate degree preferred
- 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience, preferably in chemical, process manufacturing, distribution, or a similar environment
- Experience reading technical manuals, schematics, drawings, and equipment documentation
- Experience with preventive maintenance, maintenance planning, scheduling, and troubleshooting
- Experience using SAP PM or another CMMS preferred
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Proactive, dependable, and comfortable taking ownership of maintenance issues
- Spanish-speaking skills are a plus
- Must be comfortable working primarily independently while coordinating with internal teams and outside vendors
