Job Description

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on manufacturing equipment, facility systems, and production support equipment. This role requires advanced technical expertise in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation systems to maximize equipment uptime, ensure safety, and support efficient manufacturing operations on the evening shift.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control system failures on manufacturing and support equipment.
  • Troubleshoot production equipment, automation systems, PLCs, VFDs, motors, sensors, and industrial controls to quickly restore operation.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities according to established schedules and procedures.
  • Install, modify, and upgrade manufacturing equipment and facility systems to support production needs and process improvements.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to plan and execute maintenance tasks.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of recurring equipment failures and implement corrective actions to improve reliability.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns during 2nd shift to minimize production downtime and maintain output targets.
  • Collaborate closely with production personnel to identify equipment-related issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Support new equipment installations, commissioning, and validation activities to ensure proper operation and integration.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment reliability, productivity, and safety within the manufacturing process.
  • Maintain facility systems, including HVAC, compressed air systems, plumbing, and building infrastructure, to ensure proper operation.
  • Monitor and maintain utility systems to support consistent and reliable manufacturing performance.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors and vendors when specialized services or repairs are required.
  • Complete maintenance work orders and documentation accurately within the CMMS system.
  • Maintain detailed records of repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance activities for audit and reliability purposes.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and applicable codes in all maintenance activities.
  • Participate in safety audits, inspections, and training programs to reinforce a strong safety culture.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Maintenance Technicians and Maintenance Apprentices.
  • Assist in developing maintenance procedures, standards, and best practices to improve maintenance processes.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to enhance equipment reliability, optimize maintenance strategies, and support lean manufacturing initiatives.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 5+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Proven experience troubleshooting automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems up to 480V (preferred but highly beneficial).
  • Experience with PLC troubleshooting (preferred).
  • Advanced mechanical systems repair and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting and diagnostic capabilities.
  • Experience maintaining pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot PLC, HMI, VFD, and industrial automation systems.
  • Hands-on experience using CMMS software for work orders and maintenance tracking.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Demonstrated advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in maintenance work.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work well within a team.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage priorities.
  • Commitment to safety and continuous improvement in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical degree, trade school certification, or equivalent military experience (preferred).
  • Experience and examples of continuous improvement work in manufacturing processes.
  • Background in lean manufacturing with demonstrated ability to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
  • Electromechanical troubleshooting skills with a systematic approach to diagnosing issues in systems combining electrical and mechanical components.
  • Experience overseeing and supporting aspects of a production floor, including coordination of processes, quality, and safety compliance.
  • Welding, fabrication, and machining skills (preferred).
  • Familiarity with lockout/tagout procedures and safe work practices around energized equipment.
  • Ability to participate in and contribute to production supervision and cross-functional improvement initiatives.

Work Environment

This role is based in a modern manufacturing and industrial environment with exposure to moving machinery, noise, dust, and varying temperatures. The facility is air-conditioned and equipped with advanced industry 4.0 technology. The position requires regular standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing portable ladders, and working in confined spaces and at heights. Employees must be able to lift and carry up to 35 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds regularly, and use good manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination. The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, and strict adherence to safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, is expected. The schedule is Monday through Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. with a shift differential, with some availability and occasional mandatory work on Fridays, as well as potential overtime, weekend, or on-call hours to support production and respond to emergencies.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mesa, AZ 85212.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $40.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
