Robert Half is looking for a Senior Security Engineer for our client in the Milwaukee area. This role will help strengthen and support enterprise security operations across a mix of internal systems and client-facing environments. It focuses on security tooling, threat detection, incident response, infrastructure hardening, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate brings a strong systems and security background, enjoys solving complex technical problems, and can work independently while collaborating with infrastructure, operations, and compliance teams.
What You'll Be Doing
- Manage and improve core security technologies including SIEM, endpoint protection, vulnerability management platforms, identity and access controls, email security, and centralized logging solutions.
- Investigate security events, suspicious activity, and high-priority alerts while coordinating containment, remediation, and recovery efforts.
- Enhance threat detection capabilities through custom alerting, security analytics, correlation rules, and dashboard development.
- Drive security hardening initiatives across Windows environments, Active Directory, servers, applications, and supporting infrastructure.
- Lead vulnerability remediation efforts by identifying risks, prioritizing findings, validating fixes, and tracking trends.
- Support endpoint security operations including malware investigations, ransomware response, identity-related threats, and advanced troubleshooting.
- Administer and optimize Microsoft 365 security technologies such as Defender, Conditional Access, MFA, Exchange security controls, and identity governance features.
- Partner with leadership and compliance stakeholders during audits, risk assessments, and remediation activities.
- Develop and maintain operational documentation including security standards, technical procedures, and incident response playbooks.
- Participate in security-related projects that improve visibility, resilience, automation, and operational efficiency.
- Provide technical guidance to junior team members and assist with knowledge sharing across the organization.
- Participate in escalation and after-hours support for critical security incidents as needed.
- 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity, systems administration, infrastructure security, or security operations.
- Strong experience supporting enterprise security platforms such as SIEM, EDR/XDR, vulnerability management, and identity management solutions.
- Advanced knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, and security best practices.
- Experience securing virtualized and hosted infrastructure environments.
- Ability to investigate complex technical issues and coordinate resolution across multiple teams.
- Experience with automation and scripting tools such as PowerShell, Bash, or similar technologies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting Linux-based systems.
- Exposure to cloud security within Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud environments.
- Security certifications such as CISSP, Security+, CySA+, SC-200, AZ-500, or similar.
- Familiarity with firewalls, backup and recovery strategies, and enterprise security architecture concepts.
- Experience working within structured change management or IT service management environments.
