Access Control Technician Job Description
Location: Savannah, GA
Territory: Savannah and surrounding areas (approximately 2-hour radius)
Position Type: Contract-to-Hire
Target Pay: $25-$36/hr depending on experience, qualifications, certifications. Convergint is flexible for the right candidate, but is generally targeting candidates below the $40/hr range.
About the Opportunity:
TEKsystems is partnered with Convergint, one of the nation's leading security systems integrators, to identify an experienced Access Control Technician to support their growing Savannah market. Unlike the Charleston opening, this position requires a technician who can operate independently and contribute immediately with minimal training. Convergint has experienced ongoing challenges finding qualified access control talent and is actively looking for technicians with verifiable industry experience who can install, troubleshoot, and support security systems while working across commercial project environments.
Position Overview:
This technician will support commercial security installation projects throughout the Savannah region. The role will involve independently installing and supporting access control systems, card readers, door hardware, electronic locking devices, security equipment, and other integrated security technologies.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in access control installation and troubleshooting and is capable of working autonomously on project sites. This is not a cable-pulling-focused position. Convergint typically subcontracts large-scale cabling work and is specifically looking for technicians with device installation, system integration, and troubleshooting experience.

-Collaborate with Project Managers to execute project schedules and deliverables.
-Communicate directly with customers and other trades on project sites.
-Maintain accurate project documentation and communicate progress updates.
-Operate independently while maintaining Convergint's customer service standards.
Core Requirements:
-Minimum 3+ years of verifiable access control or commercial security installation experience.
-Reliable transportation.

-Mechanical aptitude and comfort using hand tools and power tools.
-Strong communication and customer interaction skills.
-Stable work history.
-Ability to confidently discuss prior project experience during technical interviews.
Soft Skills That Matter Most:
This position is heavily weighted toward proven experience, self-sufficiency, and problem-solving ability. Bryan specifically indicated that the Savannah technician must be capable of operating independently and not require extensive training or oversight.
Successful candidates will:
-Have confidence working independently on customer job sites.
-Be able to troubleshoot issues without constant supervision.
-Adapt to multiple access control and security platforms.
-Remain calm and effective when problems arise.
-Be resourceful and capable of locating technical information when needed.
-Demonstrate professionalism and accountability.
