Job title: Facilities Maintenance and Repair Specialist (Part-time)

The Cathedral of St. John the Divine is the world’s largest cathedral. Our goal, each and every day, is to present it as the most welcoming, and the members of our Facilities team are key players in our efforts to do so by making the Cathedral’s grounds and buildings clean, neat, and safe.

Job Summary

The Facilities Maintenance and Repair Specialist works both independently and collaboratively to insure buildings, grounds, and physical equipment remain safe, functional, and compliant with operational standards through routine upkeep, troubleshooting, and corrective repairs.

Responsibilities

· The Facilities Maintenance and Repair Specialist possesses a specialty in one or more of the following areas: plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and door hardware, or working knowledge of all.

· Guides less experienced Facilities staff in completing work assignments and mentors those staff who exhibit an interest in learning new skills.

· Assists the Cathedral’s maintenance and facilities vendors in the completion of renovation and repair projects.

· In addition to those listed in the first bullet of this section, assignments may include the following:

· Lawn work

· Snow shoveling

· Power washing stonework and masonry

· Maintenance and repair of Facilities equipment

· Other supporting activities such as floor buffing, sweeping, and mopping

Requirements

· High school diploma or equivalent

· Candidates with New York State Class C or E drivers licenses are preferred

· Building maintenance and custodian experience

· Supervisory experience a plus

Physical Requirements and work environment

· Ability to lift/move/maneuver up to 50 lbs.

· Ability to stand for long periods of time; repetitive lifting, squatting, bending, and kneeling as required.

· Must be able to use hands to grip power and hand tools

· Must be able to employ safe practices with cleaning chemicals and detergents.

· Exposed to variable temperatures, including extreme hot and cold depending on the season

Schedule:

· This is a part-time position requiring a fixed commitment of three days per week. Ideal for candidates seeking a predictable, reduced-hour schedule.

Compensation and benefits:

· $25.00/hour

· Participation in the Cathedral’s 403(b) plan
