The Maintenance Technician is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing complex electrical, mechanical, and process systems across PCB manufacturing equipment. This role operates with a high level of autonomy and serves as a technical resource to support equipment reliability, continuous improvement, and operational uptime.
Job DetailsDuties & Responsibilities:
- Perform advanced troubleshooting and repair of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and chemical systems across PCB manufacturing equipment.
- Diagnose root causes of equipment failures using structured problem-solving methods (e.g., fault isolation, trend analysis, data review).
- Execute and optimize preventative and predictive maintenance programs to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
- Lead or support equipment installation, commissioning, and process optimization projects.
- Identify systemic issues and drive corrective actions, including recommending design or process improvements.
- Develop, update, and standardize maintenance procedures (SOPs, PMs, troubleshooting guides).
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to lower-level technicians.
- Coordinate and collaborate with Process Engineering, Production, and external vendors on equipment performance and upgrades.
- Interpret technical drawings, schematics, manuals, and PLC/HMI interfaces as needed for troubleshooting.
- Manage parts, tools, and inventory needs; initiate purchase requisitions and support MRO optimization.
- Support environmental systems including wastewater treatment and chemical maintenance with a strong understanding of regulatory and operational requirements.
- Accurately document maintenance activities, root cause findings, and corrective actions in maintenance systems.
- Proactively identify risks to safety, quality, or production and take appropriate action.
- Follows the facilities and departments safety rules; utilizes proper personal protective equipment (eye protection, safety shoes, etc.) and reports safety hazards and incidents to supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and fluid systems in a manufacturing environment.
- Understanding of preventative/predictive maintenance and equipment reliability principles.
- Familiarity with industrial controls (PLCs/HMIs) and ability to interpret technical documentation (schematics, manuals).
- Knowledge of safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and EH&S requirements.
- Advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis across mechanical and electrical systems.
- Ability to read and apply schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Effective communication and coordination with cross-functional teams and vendors.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and make sound technical decisions.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced production environment.
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical degree (AA/AS) or trade certification preferred.
- Typically 3–6+ years of relevant maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience working and troubleshooting in the following areas: low/high voltage electrical (switches, transducers, motors, heaters, etc), instrumentation (setup, calibration), PLC (hardware, software), AC/DC drives (setup, calibration), electrical prints.
- Experience operating: hand tools, power tools, boom lift, scissor lift, fork lift.
- Comfortable working in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word) and Maintenance Systems (ServiceNow).
- Experience with PCB fabrication equipment strongly preferred.
Physical demands & Abilities:This is a hands-on role, with most of the time spent on the production floor and within manufacturing environments supporting equipment troubleshooting, repair, preventative maintenance, and continuous improvement activities. The role also includes routine computer work, documentation, and coordination with cross-functional teams. The position requires standing, walking, bending, and climbing ladders, as well as the ability to perform repetitive tasks and maintain focus for extended periods. Manual dexterity is required to assemble, adjust, and repair equipment with accuracy and precision. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work may involve exposure to chemicals, fumes, noise, and manufacturing materials. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, protective clothing, and respiratory protection, is required in designated areas or when performing specific tasks. The ability to wear required respiratory protection is an essential function of the role. The position requires the ability to lift up to 44 pounds (20 kg) and safely operate manufacturing equipment, maintenance tools, and factory machinery. Occasional extended hours or schedule flexibility may be required to support production demands, audits, or investigations.
