Job Title: Maintenance Technician
Job Description
The Maintenance Technician diagnoses, repairs, and maintains mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment in an industrial environment. This role performs both corrective and preventive maintenance, fabricates and repairs parts using metalworking equipment, and supports equipment installations and modifications. The technician also leads a small maintenance team, coordinates with external service providers, and uses technical documentation and OEM resources to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all assigned systems.
Responsibilities
- Respond to equipment issues promptly and perform detailed diagnostics using visual inspection, auditory observation, and measurement tools.
- Repair and maintain mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems to minimize downtime and ensure safe operation.
- Troubleshoot electrical systems, including 480V circuits, AC and DC motors, and 3-phase power, to identify and correct faults.
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks, including cleaning, lubrication, adjustment, and replacement of components, to extend equipment life and reduce failures.
- Conduct predictive maintenance activities and monitor equipment condition to address potential issues before they lead to breakdowns.
- Operate metalworking equipment such as drill presses, manual mills, and grinders to fabricate, modify, and repair parts as needed.
- Inspect, maintain, and repair roll forming lines, hydraulic presses, and other production machinery to ensure consistent performance.
- Maintain and repair motors, bearings, gearboxes, and related drive components to support reliable equipment operation.
- Troubleshoot pneumatic systems, including valves, cylinders, and air distribution, to restore proper function.
- Perform PLC troubleshooting at the basic level to assist in identifying control system issues and support production continuity.
- Use technical documentation, schematics, manuals, and OEM resources to guide repairs, adjustments, and equipment upgrades.
- Support engineering and operations teams with equipment installations, modifications, and improvements to enhance productivity and safety.
- Lead a small maintenance team by assigning tasks, providing technical guidance, and ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently.
- Coordinate with outside service providers and contractors to schedule and oversee specialized maintenance and repair work.
- Document maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage accurately to support reliability tracking and continuous improvement.
- Adhere to safety procedures and lockout/tagout practices while working on electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Assist with setup, adjustment, and optimization of production equipment, including roll formers, presses, saws, and conveyors.
- Support packaging and material handling systems by troubleshooting and repairing conveyors, strapping machines, and related equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure tools, equipment, and parts are stored and used properly.
Essential Skills
- At least 2+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical maintenance, including repair and alignment of motors, bearings, and gearboxes.
- Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including work with 480V systems, AC and DC motors, and 3-phase power.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing pneumatic systems, including valves, actuators, and air circuits.
- Experience working with hydraulic systems, including pumps, cylinders, valves, and hydraulic presses.
- Ability to perform preventive and predictive maintenance on a wide range of industrial equipment.
- Demonstrated skill in maintenance repair across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic disciplines.
- Experience with PLC troubleshooting at a basic level to assist in identifying control-related issues.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, schematics, and OEM manuals.
- Proficiency with metalworking tools such as drill presses, manual mills, and grinders for fabrication and repair.
- Strong troubleshooting skills in an industrial environment, including root cause analysis of equipment failures.
- Capability to lead or guide a small maintenance team while coordinating daily maintenance activities.
- Comfort working on roll forming equipment, hydraulic presses, and related industrial machinery.
- Knowledge of safe work practices, including lockout/tagout and electrical safety procedures.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working with roll formers and steel presses up to 600 tons.
- Familiarity with hydraulic shears and hydraulic power units used in metal processing.
- Exposure to CNC gantry routers and manual mills for equipment setup, maintenance, and repair.
- Experience maintaining vacuum collectors and dust extraction or collection systems.
- Knowledge of up-cut saws and band saws used in cutting and fabrication operations.
- Experience with pneumatic torque guns and other pneumatic tools used in assembly and maintenance.
- Familiarity with powered conveyors, embossment rollers, and glue dispensers in production lines.
- Experience with strapping machines and clinch systems used for packaging and fastening.
- Experience working with air compressors and packaging systems in an industrial setting.
- Ability to collaborate with engineering and production teams on equipment installations and modifications.
- Willingness to participate in training and certification programs to expand technical skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to work effectively with peers, supervisors, and external vendors.

Work Environment
The role is based in an industrial production environment with hands-on work on a wide range of machinery and support systems. Typical hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with the expectation of working 1–2 Saturdays per month to support production needs. One technician will primarily support the Plainfield site, while another will travel to and support the Avon site, providing exposure to different equipment and layouts. The equipment mix includes roll formers, 600-ton steel presses, hydraulic shears, CNC gantry routers, manual mills, vacuum collectors, up-cut and band saws, pneumatic torque guns, powered conveyors, embossment rollers, glue dispensers, strapping machines, clinch systems, hydraulic power units, air compressors, and packaging systems. The environment requires adherence to safety procedures and the use of uniforms and safety gear, which are provided, while working around mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems in an active manufacturing setting.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $32.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
