Maintenance Worker

Help Maintain a Facility That Serves Our Veterans
We’re seeking experienced Maintenance Workers for an upcoming opportunity at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston. This role is ideal for dependable professionals with broad maintenance skills who enjoy hands-on work and supporting skilled trades.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and building-maintenance tasks
- Assist licensed trades with preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs
- Prepare materials, handle components, and complete basic repairs under supervision
- Inspect facility areas, identify deficiencies, and initiate work orders
- Maintain tools, materials, shops, and work areas safely
- Document labor, materials, completed work, and trade assistance
- Follow all VA, healthcare-facility, and safety requirements
Qualifications
- At least 5 years of commercial or hospital trade experience
- Experience with general building maintenance and inspections
- Basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry knowledge
- Ability to safely operate tools and assist licensed trades
- Ability to follow instructions and select appropriate work methods
- Accurate work-order and documentation skills
- Current license when required for the work performed

Schedule
The facility operates 24 hours a day. Available shifts may include:
- 7:30 AM–4:00 PM
- 3:30 PM–12:00 AM
- 11:30 PM–8:00 AM
Final shift assignments will be determined by the VA and may change based on facility needs. Federal holiday coverage may be required.
