Maintenance Technician
Job Description
Job DescriptionDescription:
NOW HIRING - FULL-TIME MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
Calvary Tower & St. Mark's Millcreek - Salt Lake City, Utah
Pay: $24-$27 per hour DOE
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, plus on-call coverage. We will walk you through exactly how the rotation works when we talk.
Two buildings, residents who know your name, and work that someone thanks you for the same day. If you have a maintenance background and you would rather look after a community than a job site, we would love to meet you!
Community Housing Services is a Utah nonprofit working toward a world where everyone, regardless of financial circumstances, has access to safe, affordable, dignified housing. We have been at it since 1995. We are hiring one Maintenance Technician to look after two of our communities, home to seniors 62 and older and to residents with physical disabilities who need a mobility-accessible unit.
Calvary Tower, at 516 East 700 South, is thirty apartments right downtown, with a community room and a fenced backyard. St. Mark's Millcreek, at 418 East Front Avenue, is seventy-two apartments on a quiet cul-de-sac.
You will come to know residents by name, and they will know yours. Our residents stay a long time, they look out for one another, and they are genuinely glad to see the person who keeps their home running.
What you'll do
No two days look the same: a running toilet one morning, a water heater the next, snow on the walkways before residents are up and out.
- Handle resident work orders across both buildings: plumbing, electrical, appliances, doors, and general repairs.
- Troubleshoot HVAC, boilers, and water heaters, and bring in licensed contractors when a job calls for one.
- Run preventative maintenance and safety inspections, including fire alarms and resident emergency call systems, and keep walkways clear of snow, ice, and debris.
- Assist with unit turns – move-ins and move-outs.
- Keep apartments safe and accessible for residents who need it — grab bars, door closers, thresholds, and the features that make a mobility-accessible unit work.
- Help the properties stay ready for inspections and handle the repairs that come out of them.
- Schedule and oversee outside vendors — pest control, landscaping, elevator service, fire system testing — and check the work before you sign off.
- Keep the Property Manager posted on maintenance needs, work orders, and parts.
What we're looking for
- At least 1 year of maintenance experience and a high school diploma.
- Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry, plus your own basic hand tools.
- Valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, and clean driving record.
- Able to work outdoors year-round and lift up to 75 lbs.
- Patience and respect with senior residents.
What we offer
Health, dental, and vision coverage. Paid time off accruing from day one, 15 paid holidays, life insurance, and 401(k) with company match after six months. Mileage reimbursement and a monthly cell phone allowance.
We are excited to meet you! We are interviewing as applications arrive, because our residents would like to meet their new technician soon.
