Job DescriptionBuilding Maintenance Laborer - Public WorksSUMMARY OF POSITIONPosition involves performing building maintenance and repair functions for the City of Fairview Heights' municipal buildings.ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (Essential functions include the following and the Physical Requirements listed below)Perform routine maintenance to building system equipment of City owned buildingsPerform repair activities to building systems including mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and HVACEvaluate causes of equipment malfunctions and repair as neededWork in coordination with all departments in City government to accomplish assigned dutiesPurchase supplies and materials required for maintenance and repair of City buildingsAssist Street Division with snow and ice removal operations on City streetsOther duties as assignedBASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONSHigh school graduate or equivalentTwo years of experience in building maintenance in a commercial settingPossess a degree and/or certificate in HVAC or Commercial MaintenanceCertified as a refrigerant handlerClass B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)Must possess a clean driving recordKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES REQUIREDWorking knowledge of basic building maintenance equipment with ability to accomplish repairsKnowledge to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, plumbing, lighting, refrigeration, and alarm systems in a commercial buildingAbility to work during off duty hours as neededAbility to coordinate activities with other Departments in the organizationAbility to work effectively with salesmen, contractors, repair personnel, etc.WORKING ENVIRONMENTThe employee will be working near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and risk of electrical shock. The employee will work in high, precarious places and may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and extreme heat.
