SUMMARY The Maintenance Department Supervisor coordinates and supports the planning, construction, maintenance, and alteration of machinery, buildings, vehicles, and other facilities by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates. These responsibilities encompass all buildings owned, leased, or operated by PDI as well as all vehicles owned or leased by PDI. THE ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION, PERFORMED DIRECTLY OR THROUGH SUBORDINATE EMPLOYEES, INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TOHealth, Safety, and Security Serve on the PDI safety committee and implement the safety committee's findings and recommendations Keep all equipment operating efficiently and safely Maintain safe walkways, driveways, and parking areas Maintain the Alarm system(s) and campus access Ensure that operator information is available and current Ensure that safety data sheets (“SDS”) are current, complete, and properly located Proactively maintain a safe and hazard-free physical environment Perform routine safety checks on all equipment, machinery, and buildings Perform and document annual fire inspections and implement related requirements Ensure all employees don the appropriate personal protective equipment when engaged in a task Ensure employees remain current on all required safety training and certifications Act as the lift equipment trainer for PDI Coordinates after hours support for alarm and campus access concerns Building Maintenance Inspect the plant and evaluate the use of space and facilities Analyze HVAC system, wiring, lighting, and other factors Plan and schedule facilities modifications, including cost estimates, bid sheets, layouts, and contracts Act as liaison to public utility and energy agencies Inspect construction and installation progress to ensure conformance to established specifications Oversee and direct maintenance personnel and workers engaged in facilities and equipment installation, repair, and maintenance Vehicle Maintenance Maintain current vehicle listing in an easily available format Maintain and implement vehicle maintenance and repair schedules and records in an easily available format Coordinate repair or replacement activities with the insurance carrier in the event of an accident Coordinate all vehicle registrations and disabled person parking permits Security Implement and coordinate building and safety procedures Act as liaison to security and security monitoring firms Production Set up production equipment and machinery Maintain all equipment and machinery in operating condition Maintain equipment and machinery schedules and records Design and create adaptive equipment as required Maintenance Department Design and build adaptive equipment to facilitate the productivity of and ensure the safety of people served Use machinist equipment for construction and design of parts or equipment Perform complex repairs and/or modifications on machinery and equipment Instruct subordinate staff and other employees on repairs, proper use, and maintenance of equipment and machinery Inspect and diagnose causes of failure or breakdown of equipment and machinery Perform general maintenance and repair of equipment, machinery, buildings, and grounds Drive and operate equipment and machinery including trucks, lift trucks, tractors Operate machine shop equipment such as lathes, end mills, drills, welder, and tool grinder Vehicle Use This position does require that you drive a personal or PDI vehicle on PDI business COMPETENCIES To perform the job successfully, a person development, and knowledge-gaining opportunities Strive continuously to build knowledge and skills Share expertise with others SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES The Maintenance Department Supervisor supervises employees in PDI’s Maintenance Department with support from the Sr. Director of Operations. Requirements: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL PDI POSITIONS You must be age 21 or over to work at PDI. You must also pass a pre-hire drug and background screen as well as random drug screens that may occur at any time and without notice while employed by PDI. You must be computer-literate, comfortable with technology with well-developed oral and written communication skills. You must be able to complete and pass First Aid, CPR and other required training. If the position requires you to drive a PDI vehicle on company business, then you must possess a valid driver’s license and agree to a review of your motor vehicle record for addition to PDI’s authorized drivers list. In addition, if the position authorizes you to drive your personal vehicle on PDI business then you must provide proof of automobile insurance and proof of required automobile insurance limits. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High school diploma or GED required. Journeyman machinist with extensive knowledge in the construction and design of equipment and machinery. Background and skill in using a variety of older and newer tools, equipment and machinery. Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems. PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Knowledge, training, and experience in computer-aided design (“CAD”) systems. Experience in working with people with disability preferred. LANGUAGE ABILITY Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, employees, people served and the general public. MATHEMATICS ABILITY Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. COMPUTER SKILLS To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of products, Internet software, cellular telephones and basic office equipment. CAD system experience required. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. WORK ENVIRONMENT The Maintenance Department Supervisor typically works at PDI’s main facility and is often exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can become loud and hectic, and personal protective equipment may be required. POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK This is an exempt, full-time position. Work hours may vary based on schedule requirements and may include evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
