Security Alarm and Fire Technician

Position Overview
MDI Security PLLC is seeking a skilled Security Alarm and Fire Technician to join our growing team in Monee, Illinois. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing security alarm systems and fire protection equipment for commercial and residential clients throughout the Chicagoland area.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Maintenance:
- Install, program, and configure security alarm systems, fire alarm panels, smoke detectors, and related equipment
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on existing systems to ensure optimal performance
- Conduct system testing and commissioning for new installations
- Document all work performed and maintain accurate service records
Troubleshooting & Repair:
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues with alarm systems and fire protection equipment
- Replace defective components and perform necessary repairs
- Respond to emergency service calls in a timely manner
- Provide technical support to customers and explain system operations
Customer Service:
- Interact professionally with clients during installations and service visits
- Train customers on proper system operation and maintenance
- Provide recommendations for system upgrades or improvements
- Ensure customer satisfaction and address any concerns promptly
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification preferred
- 2+ years of experience in security alarm or fire protection systems
- Knowledge of NFPA codes and Illinois state fire safety regulations
- Familiarity with various alarm system brands and technologies
- Valid Illinois driver's license with clean driving record
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in the Chicago metro area
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities
- Physical ability to work in various environments (crawl spaces, attics, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in Electronics, Electrical Technology, or related field
- Industry certifications (NICET, ESA, manufacturer certifications)
- Experience with access control systems and CCTV equipment
- Low voltage electrical experience
- Familiarity with Chicago area building codes and requirements
