PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER

(Open to Existing City Employees Only at This Time)

$21.12/hour, Grade 9, Step 0
Full-time regular position with full benefit package.

The Tooele City Parks Maintenance Division is accepting applications for a new team member to carry out the tasks necessary to keep our parks and facilities clean, beautiful, and safe. You will have a special role in maintaining the quality of life for our residents. From adding a little TLC to the grounds, to inspecting playgrounds, to helping make community events successful we are looking for a skilled worker who will take pride in this work.

The job duties are physical, diverse, and vary by season. Some examples of duties include but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining parks and facilities including sprinkler systems, landscape maintenance, painting, repair, clean-up, inspection, and improvements;
  • Removing snow by hand and operation of equipment;
  • Conducting playground inspections;
  • Operating equipment such as commercial landscaping equipment, forklift, mini-excavator, snow removal equipment, chain saws, and similar equipment;
  • Operating an aerial lift and working at heights to install holiday decorations and street banners;
  • Towing trailers; and,
  • Enter confined spaces.

The schedule is generally Monday-Friday with actual work hours varying as seasons change to better align with hot summer days. This position will require working some weekends and holiday hours, generally to assist with getting ready for special events, such as the 4th of July celebrations. Other seasonal activities needing support from the parks division may also occur on weekends.

To be considered you must be at least 18 years old. You must have a valid driver license (and had it for at least 12 months) and a driving record that is acceptable to Tooele City's risk management and insurance standards. You must possess and maintain the City's confidence to be put in a safety-sensitive position that includes working in proximity and trust to children.

You will find the job is physical in nature with periods of sustained manual labor including bending, lifting of up to 45 lbs., pulling, pushing, walking, standing, and operation of various equipment. Our crew works in extreme weather conditions.
