Job Description

The Heavy Civil Superintendent is responsible for the overall field management and execution of heavy civil construction projects, including grading, excavation, utilities, demolition, and paving operations. This role ensures projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage all on-site construction activities from mobilization through project completion
  • Coordinate daily operations for grading, land clearing, excavation, underground utilities, concrete, and asphalt paving
  • Supervise field crews, subcontractors, and equipment operators to ensure productivity and efficiency
  • Develop and maintain project schedules in coordination with Project Managers
  • Read, interpret, and execute plans, specifications, and blueprints
  • Conduct daily site meetings and communicate project goals, expectations, and safety requirements
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies
  • Identify and resolve field issues, conflicts, and unforeseen site conditions
  • Monitor job costs, production rates, and resource allocation
  • Order materials, schedule deliveries, and manage inventory on-site
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, including manpower, equipment usage, weather, and progress
  • Coordinate inspections with local agencies and ensure code compliance
  • Maintain strong communication with clients, engineers, and stakeholders


Qualifications:

  • 5–10+ years of experience in heavy civil construction (grading, utilities, earthwork, paving, etc.)
  • Proven experience as a Superintendent or Foreman leading large crews
  • Strong knowledge of site development, excavation, and construction sequencing
  • Ability to read and interpret civil plans, grade stakes, and survey data
  • Experience with GPS machine control systems is a plus
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Valid driver’s license required

Work Environment:

  • May require extended hours, weekends, and travel depending on project demands
